Warner, Oasis voice meets Stone Roses guitar
On 1 March 2024, Warner Music UK released Liam Gallagher & John Squire, the self-titled collaborative debut by Liam Gallagher and former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire. Sessions began after Gallagher visited Squire’s Macclesfield studio, then moved to Los Angeles for roughly three weeks with producer Greg Kurstin. Kurstin also played bass; Joey Waronker handled drums. Squire wrote the songs and played guitar; Gallagher sang. Squire does not take lead vocals on the record.
The ten-track album runs about forty minutes. Opener “Raise Your Hands” arrives as a stomping glam-rock statement. “Mars to Liverpool” follows as a second single punch. Lead single “Just Another Rainbow,” issued 5 January 2024, peaked at No. 16 on the UK Singles Chart; Charles Mehling directed the official video. Later singles included “Raise Your Hands” and “I’m a Wheel.” Across the set, Squire’s riffs and fluid leads sit under Gallagher’s familiar bark, with flashes of Faces swagger and late-60s/70s rock vocabulary.
The project is Squire’s first album of new material under his own name in twenty years, since Marshall’s House (2004). For Gallagher it followed the solo run of As You Were, Why Me? Why Not., and C’MON YOU KNOW, plus the Knebworth 22 live document. The pairing was long teased in interviews; once the singles landed, the album campaign moved quickly into a sold-out tour with Waronker in the live band, Barrie Cadogan on bass, and Christian Madden on keys.

Commercially the album opened at No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart with about 39,400 chart units in week one, outselling the nearest rival three to one. Roughly 94 percent of those units were physical and download sales; vinyl alone made up about 45 percent. It also topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and the Official Record Store Chart. For Squire it was a first UK No. 1 album under his own name; for Gallagher it added another chart-topping album to a long list that includes Oasis and solo releases.
Sonically the record stays guitar-first. “One Day at a Time” slows into a melancholic mid-tempo. “Love You Forever” lets Squire lean into denser riff work. “Just Another Rainbow” carries chiming, early-Roses-adjacent melody under Gallagher’s vocal. Kurstin’s bass and Waronker’s drums keep the pocket tight enough for radio without sanding off the live edge. The supermarket-shelf cover art turns song titles into fake household brands, a visual gag that still reads clearly in a thumbnail.
Liam Gallagher & John Squire is a short, focused collaboration rather than a sprawling side project. Ten songs, one producer, two Manchester legends in defined roles, and a first-week UK No. 1.
