Dynamite<\/em> reached UK shops on 20 June 2005 (Japan a few days earlier) as Jamiroquai’s sixth studio album on Sony BMG and Epic. It followed A Funk Odyssey<\/em> (2001) and was the first full album with keyboardist Matt Johnson, who had joined in 2002. Jay Kay and Mike Spencer produced. Sessions ran from 2003 into 2005 at Jam Studios in London and at Kay’s Chillington facilities. Nick Fyffe had left before recording; there was no official bassist on the credit sheet, with Paul Turner arriving after the album was finished.<\/p>\n

Lead single Feels Just Like It Should<\/em> hit UK No. 8 and later topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in the US. Joseph Kahn directed the video in Los Angeles, with Kay playing multiple characters in a street-level special-effects piece. Second single Seven Days in Sunny June<\/em> peaked at UK No. 14 and found a second life in film and TV placements. (Don’t) Give Hate a Chance<\/em> followed as the third single, a more openly political cut that still kept the band’s bounce.<\/p>\n

Across twelve tracks the band mixes nu-funk, soft-rock sheen, and club-ready programming. Rob Harris’s guitar sits forward; Derrick McKenzie’s drums stay crisp; Kay’s falsetto still owns the hooks. Black Devil Car<\/em> and Hot Tequila Brown<\/em> flex the old dancefloor muscle. Time Won’t Wait<\/em> closes with a longer, more reflective stride. Compared with the acid-jazz debut years, Dynamite<\/em> is brighter, tighter, and built for mid-2000s radio formats without dumping the groove.<\/p>\n

UK chart peaks put the album inside the Top 3, with strong European sales keeping Sony’s investment justified. Guest players and backing vocalists (including Bridgette Blades and Alexandra Brown on several cuts) thicken the choruses without turning the band into a faceless pop unit. Kay’s car obsession still surfaces in titles and videos; the difference in 2005 is how tightly Spencer locks the low end for club systems.<\/p>\n

Chart-wise the album landed in the UK Top 3 and sold strongly across Europe, keeping Jamiroquai visible between the Virtual Insanity peak and the later, quieter Rock Dust Light Star<\/em> era. Live dates leaned on the new singles while still opening space for older funk workouts. Fans who wanted didgeridoo epics from 1993 got something else: concise songs, polished mixes, and videos designed for heavy rotation.<\/p>\n

That polish is the point. Spencer’s programming and Kay’s ear for melody make Dynamite<\/em> an easy entry for listeners who arrive from dance radio rather than acid jazz clubs. It is not the band’s most radical record; it is one of their most efficient. Every single has a job, and most of the album tracks earn their minutes.<\/p>\n

Put Feels Just Like It Should<\/em> next to Cosmic Girl<\/em> and you hear the same project with different tools: cars, hats, and basslines updated for a new decade. Dynamite<\/em> still does that job whenever someone needs a 2005 funk-pop reset.<\/p>\n

High Times: Singles 1992\u20132006 soon framed Dynamite as the last major studio statement before a quieter decade, which is why its singles still headline the later compilations.<\/p>\n
