Love Foolosophy<\/em> sits as track five on Jamiroquai\u2019s fifth studio album, A Funk Odyssey<\/em>, released in August 2001 on Sony Soho Square. Jay Kay and keyboardist Toby Smith write it. Rick Pope produces. The title is a portmanteau: fool plus philosophy, a neat label for a man arguing with his own soft spot. The album version and the radio edit both stay under four minutes.<\/p>\n

Sessions land mainly at Chillington, Kay\u2019s Buckinghamshire studio, after the denser electronic push of Synkronized<\/em>. Here the band leans into nu-disco: four-on-the-floor kick, bright keys, and Kay\u2019s nasal lead riding a clean mix. Beverley Knight adds the backing vocals that thicken the chorus. Rob Harris\u2019s guitar stays clipped; Nick Fyffe\u2019s bass keeps the floor moving without crowding the vocal.<\/p>\n

Issued as a single on 25 February 2002, Love Foolosophy<\/em> peaks at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart and reaches the Top 20 in Australia, Italy, and Spain. BBC Radio 1 puts it on the A-list for weeks; club remixes (Knee Deep, Bini & Martini) push it onto dance charts even when the sales chart cools. The official video keeps Kay in motion against a stylised, high-contrast set.<\/p>\n

The pun in the title could have sunk a lesser single; here the bassline and Knight\u2019s stacked answers make the joke feel intentional rather than cute. Jamiroquai had already proved they could fill arenas with hats and cars. Love Foolosophy<\/em> proves they could still write a three-and-a-half-minute radio record without emptying the funk out of the pocket.<\/p>\n

On the parent album, the track sits between the open-sky balladry of Corner of the Earth<\/em> and the harder funk of Stop Don\u2019t Panic<\/em>. Live, it becomes a mid-set reset: less of the buffalo-hat spectacle, more of the four-to-the-floor that kept Jamiroquai on European festival bills after the Y2K turn. B-sides on the CD single include live takes of Black Crow<\/em> and Picture of My Life<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A Funk Odyssey<\/em> debuts at UK No. 1. Love Foolosophy<\/em> is not the biggest single from that campaign (Little L<\/em> carries more chart heat), but it is the clearest statement of the album\u2019s brief: disco tempo, romantic lyric, zero apology for the pun in the title. Play it next to Cosmic Girl<\/em> and you hear the same band, just with the kick drum moved forward.<\/p>\n
