Seven Days in Sunny June<\/em> is the third track on Jamiroquai\u2019s sixth studio album, Dynamite<\/em>, released in June 2005 on Sony BMG\/Epic. Jay Kay writes it with new keyboardist Matt Johnson. Mike Spencer co-produces with Kay at Chillington and other rooms. The song runs about four minutes and was flagged early as a deliberate step back toward the acid-jazz bounce that launched the band in the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

Where A Funk Odyssey<\/em> pushed four-to-the-floor disco, this cut opens space for Rhodes-style keys, a looser drum pocket, and Kay\u2019s vocal riding mid-tempo swagger instead of club rush. Rob Harris\u2019s guitar comps stay light; the bassline walks with room to breathe. The lyric sketches a short summer fling counted in days, not metaphors: heat, calendars, and the knowledge that June ends.<\/p>\n

Released as a UK single on 15 August 2005, it peaks at number 14 on the Official Singles Chart (five weeks on the listing) and number 4 on the UK Hip Hop\/R&B chart. It also charts in Italy, Ireland, and Australia. The official video keeps the band in bright daylight and colour blocks, matching the title\u2019s weather report more than a nightclub set.<\/p>\n

Spencer\u2019s mix is cleaner than the early Acid Jazz records, but the syncopation in the keys still nods to those years. That balance is why the single worked on both pop radio and the UK R&B chart: familiar Jamiroquai DNA, updated floor, no nostalgia costume required beyond Kay\u2019s usual stage kit.<\/p>\n

The track also appears in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada<\/em>, which puts the hook in front of a mainstream audience that might have skipped the album\u2019s harder singles. On Dynamite<\/em> it sits after the lead single Feels Just Like It Should<\/em> (UK No. 8) and before the political clip of (Don\u2019t) Give Hate a Chance<\/em>. Live, it often lands as the mid-set smile: feather hat optional, swing required.<\/p>\n

Dynamite<\/em> itself peaks at number 3 in the UK. Seven Days in Sunny June<\/em> is the album\u2019s handshake with the acid-jazz years without pretending 2005 is 1993. Play it next to Space Cowboy<\/em> and you hear the same DNA, just with Spencer\u2019s cleaner digital floor under the old bounce.<\/p>\n
