Their early 12-inches already sounded thicker than most French Touch house: compressed drums, distorted low end, rock guitars sampled until they behaved like synths. \u00abWe Are Your Friends\u00bb with Simian, out in 2006, put a festival chant on dancefloors that still expected filters and disco loops. The video and the live edits made the duo look like a rock act that happened to stand behind decks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2020 (Cross), released in June 2007 on Ed Banger \/ Because Music \/ Vice, fixed the template. \u00abD.A.N.C.E.\u00bb, \u00abPhantom\u00bb, \u00abGenesis\u00bb, \u00abStress\u00bb: disco structures with the midrange clenched and the bass overdriven. So Me&#8217;s cross logo and the stage set of glowing \u2020 plus Marshall stacks turned DJ sets into something you could photograph like a metal tour. Jonas &amp; Fran\u00e7ois directed the \u00abD.A.N.C.E.\u00bb video; the shirts change slogans while the beat stays locked. Grammy nominations followed. The album did not soften for radio. It dared radio to catch up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On stage they refused the laptop shrug. The cross lit up, the amps stacked, the drops hit like riffs. Festival slots from Coachella to European rock bills treated them as headliners who could share a poster with guitar bands. Audio, Video, Disco (2011) opened the stereo field a little, with \u00abCivilization\u00bb and \u00abOn&#8217;n&#8217;On\u00bb, but kept the leather-and-neon brand. Woman (2016) brought \u00abSafe and Sound\u00bb and another round of touring. Each album lands years apart; the visual system stays consistent enough that a still from 2007 still reads as Justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Production-wise they sit between Daft Punk&#8217;s polish and a punk refusal to sand the edges. Compression is a feature. Vocals often arrive chopped or choir-like (\u00abD.A.N.C.E.\u00bb spelling out Motown nostalgia while the bass scrapes). Collaborations and remixes orbit Ed Banger peers without diluting the core duo credit. They are not a collective with rotating MCs. Two producers, one logo, one stage grammar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By the late 2010s the Cross live show was a known quantity: smoke, white light, the \u2020 hanging like a prop that earned its keep. Hyperdrama (2024) returned them to album mode with \u00abIncognito\u00bb and guests, proof the project still moves when they choose to finish a record. Justice planted a flag in both: 12-inch functional, album cinematic, live theatrical. The Ed Banger roster gave them a scene; Cross gave them a catalogue number everyone still cites when explaining why dance music suddenly looked like rock again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Put on \u00abD.A.N.C.E.\u00bb or \u00abGenesis\u00bb and you hear the argument in under five minutes: disco chords, rock weight, no apology. That is the band, not a side project. The neon cross was never decoration.
