The Shock of the Lightning<\/em> es la pista cuatro de Dig Out Your Soul<\/em>, y fue el primer single del \u00e1lbum. La escribi\u00f3 Noel Gallagher. La canta Liam. Big Brother public\u00f3 el single el 29 de septiembre de 2008. El \u00e1lbum lleg\u00f3 el 6 de octubre. Cuando se anunciaron las fechas, el 24 de junio, Noel dijo a la prensa que si la canci\u00f3n sonaba inmediata era porque se hab\u00eda escrito muy r\u00e1pido y se hab\u00eda grabado muy r\u00e1pido. Dijo que el disco es, b\u00e1sicamente, el demo, y que la primera vez que grabas algo suele ser la mejor. Esa es la historia de producci\u00f3n que quiso dar. Sin un relato largo de overdubs. Dig Out Your Soul<\/em> fue el s\u00e9ptimo \u00e1lbum de estudio de la banda, producido por Dave Sardy, que ya hab\u00eda hecho Don’t Believe the Truth<\/em> en 2005. Grabaron en Londres, en Abbey Road, y mezclaron en Los \u00c1ngeles. La formaci\u00f3n ya no era la de Definitely Maybe<\/em>. Liam cant\u00f3 y toc\u00f3 la pandereta. Noel toc\u00f3 la guitarra el\u00e9ctrica, la electr\u00f3nica y los coros. Gem Archer toc\u00f3 guitarra y teclados. Andy Bell toc\u00f3 el bajo y la guitarra. Zak Starkey toc\u00f3 la bater\u00eda. La radio la oy\u00f3 antes que las tiendas. El embargo era el 15 de agosto de 2008. Chris Moyles la puso en BBC Radio 1 esa ma\u00f1ana, con Noel en el estudio, un minuto antes de la hora oficial. El v\u00eddeo, dirigido por Julian House y Julian Gibbs, se subi\u00f3 a la web de la banda el 25 de agosto y se emiti\u00f3 en Channel 4 esa misma noche. House y Gibbs lo armaron como un collage: Liam cantando, los dem\u00e1s en fogonazos, im\u00e1genes de archivo ligadas a la portada, un look solarizado en los planos de la banda. Lleg\u00f3 al n\u00famero 3 en el Reino Unido. El single de adelanto hizo lo que un single de adelanto de esa formaci\u00f3n ten\u00eda que hacer: demostrar que la banda todav\u00eda ten\u00eda una canci\u00f3n r\u00e1pida, no otra balada. En el \u00e1lbum va despu\u00e9s de Waiting for the Rapture<\/em> y antes de I’m Outta Time<\/em>, la canci\u00f3n de Liam. El contraste es el sentido del orden. Un tema es el demo que Noel se neg\u00f3 a pulir hasta dejarlo m\u00e1s liso. El siguiente es m\u00e1s lento, y es de su hermano. Sardy mezcl\u00f3 la r\u00e1pida en Los \u00c1ngeles sin, seg\u00fan Noel, lijar la energ\u00eda de la primera toma. La bater\u00eda sigue ocupada. Las guitarras no paran para dejar sitio a un puente.<\/p>\n

A mediados de octubre de 2008 el grupo del single, Gem, Noel, Liam y Andy, con Starkey en la bater\u00eda, estaba en Wembley para la sesi\u00f3n de fotos que anunciaba los estadios del verano siguiente.
