El 17 de agosto de 1984, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions publicaron Forest Fire<\/em> en Polydor. Fue el segundo single de su \u00e1lbum debut Rattlesnakes<\/em>, que lleg\u00f3 el 12 de octubre. Lloyd Cole escribi\u00f3 la canci\u00f3n. Paul Hardiman la produjo en The Garden, el estudio de Shoreditch construido por John Foxx. La cara B fue Andy’s Babies<\/em>. Alrededor de Cole estaban Neil Clark a la guitarra, Blair Cowan a los teclados, Lawrence Donegan al bajo y Stephen Irvine a la bater\u00eda. Grabaron el \u00e1lbum en cerca de un mes de sesiones diurnas: bases, comida en Brick Lane y m\u00e1s tomas. Rattlesnakes<\/em> entr\u00f3 en la lista brit\u00e1nica de \u00e1lbumes en el puesto 13 y se qued\u00f3 cerca de un a\u00f1o. Un tercer single, el tema hom\u00f3nimo, lleg\u00f3 en noviembre. Los Commotions ven\u00edan de la escena de Glasgow de principios de los 80, pero grabaron este debut en Londres, con literatura en las letras y jangle en las guitarras.
