In May 1976 at Decibel Studios in London, Marc Bolan cut I Love To Boogie<\/em> with Steve Currie on bass, Davey Lutton on drums, and Dino Dines on piano. Bolan produced the track himself. EMI issued it as a single on 11 June 1976 (catalogue MARC 14), with Baby Boomerang<\/em> from The Slider<\/em> on the B-side. The A-side runs barely past two minutes: piano stabs, a bright guitar figure, and Bolan’s vocal riding a straight rock-and-roll pulse.<\/p>\n

The song later appeared on T. Rex’s final studio album, Dandy in the Underworld<\/em> (March 1977). On the UK Singles Chart it spent nine weeks and peaked at number 13, a late hit after years when Bolan’s commercial peak had already passed. The writing sat close to classic boogie shapes; a legal dispute over similarity to Webb Pierce’s Teenage Boogie<\/em> ended with the riff treated as public-domain common stock rather than a stolen melody.<\/p>\n

What you hear first is the piano and guitar stating the figure together, then Bolan singing the title like a chant. The arrangement stays lean. No long solo section, no soft middle eight designed for radio polish. It is built to move a room quickly, the kind of short single that fits between heavier glam cuts without asking for patience.<\/p>\n

On television, Bolan took the song to Top of the Pops<\/em> in June 1976, keeping the glam smile while the band played tight behind him. Decades later the track returned to UK charts through film and soundtrack use, but the original document remains the EMI single and the Dandy<\/em> album cut: Bolan producing himself, a short boogie form, and a UK Top 20 placement when many had already written him off.<\/p>\n

Play I Love To Boogie<\/em> after the denser Electric Warrior<\/em> hits and the contrast is clear. Same writer, later band, less studio gloss from Visconti, more piano-forward bounce. It is late T. Rex boiled down to a Saturday-night slogan and a riff that refuses to overstay.<\/p>\n
