Des guitares indie-rock claires, un refrain fait pour crier, et juste assez de grit glam sous le vernis. Long Live The Strange<\/em> est sorti le 28 novembre 2022 en single avant Turn The Car Around<\/em> (13 janvier 2023). C’est le quatri\u00e8me titre de l’album, apr\u00e8s Don’t Say It’s Over<\/em> et Feel Loop (Lizard Dream)<\/em>, le moment o\u00f9 le disque desserre son col r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi et se souvient du sourire pub-rock sans recopier Supergrass en bloc. D\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re accroche, on entend pourquoi la promo d’hiver en avait besoin : du mouvement et de l’humour apr\u00e8s la chanson d’amour plus sombre qui avait ouvert la campagne.<\/p>\n

Coombes l’a \u00e9crite apr\u00e8s avoir emmen\u00e9 sa fille Tiger voir Cavetown \u00e0 Oxford en 2020, en pensant \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont la musique rassemble ceux qui se sentent hors de la pi\u00e8ce. Cette origine ancre le texte dans une vraie soir\u00e9e avec son enfant, pas dans un langage de manifeste abstrait. Le clip officiel, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Niall Trask pour GazCoombesVEVO, le place parmi une communaut\u00e9 de mannequins avec laquelle il avait v\u00e9cu des mois d’imagerie promo, transformant l’\u00e9trange en casting litt\u00e9ral. Les critiques ont ensuite signal\u00e9 le grit glam au c\u0153ur du titre dans une trilogie solo autrement m\u00e9ditative. Le refrain est la partie qui survit sans le clip ; les mannequins \u00e9taient un gag visuel avec de la tenue.<\/p>\n

En tourn\u00e9e d\u00e9but 2023, le morceau est devenu un pic de set facile : La Maroquinerie \u00e0 Paris et d’autres dates club ont capt\u00e9 des salles chantant le titre. Il a suivi Don’t Say It’s Over<\/em> dans la s\u00e9quence singles et a gard\u00e9 la campagne album visible pendant l’hiver avant la sortie de janvier. Comme single, il n’avait pas besoin de r\u00e9inventer Coombes ; il devait prouver que la trilogie avait encore des jambes et un sourire. Placez-le entre les m\u00e9ditations plus calmes de l’album et le titre \u00e9ponyme et le rythme clique : c\u00e9l\u00e9brer l’\u00e9tranget\u00e9, puis tourner la voiture.<\/p>\n
