The Shock of the Lightning<\/em> est la piste quatre de Dig Out Your Soul<\/em>, et c’est le premier single de l’album. Noel Gallagher l’\u00e9crit. Liam la chante. Big Brother sort le single le 29 septembre 2008. L’album suit le 6 octobre. Quand les dates sont annonc\u00e9es le 24 juin, Noel dit \u00e0 la presse que si la chanson para\u00eet imm\u00e9diate, c’est qu’elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crite tr\u00e8s vite et enregistr\u00e9e tr\u00e8s vite. Il dit que le disque est en gros la d\u00e9mo, et que la premi\u00e8re fois qu’on enregistre quelque chose est en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral la meilleure. C’est l’histoire de production qu’il veut bien donner. Pas de long r\u00e9cit d’overdubs. La prise reste.<\/p>\n

Dig Out Your Soul<\/em> est le septi\u00e8me album studio du groupe, produit par Dave Sardy, qui avait fait Don’t Believe the Truth<\/em> en 2005. Ils enregistrent \u00e0 Londres, \u00e0 Abbey Road, et mixent \u00e0 Los Angeles. La formation n’est plus celle de Definitely Maybe<\/em>. Liam chante et joue du tambourin. Noel joue la guitare \u00e9lectrique, l’\u00e9lectronique et les choeurs. Gem Archer joue guitare et claviers. Andy Bell joue basse et guitare. Zak Starkey joue la batterie. Noel avait dit qu’il voulait des grooves plut\u00f4t que l’ancien sch\u00e9ma couplet, refrain, pont, des chansons qui vous tirent dedans et restent sur une seule pouss\u00e9e. Ce morceau est l’\u00e9chantillon de cette id\u00e9e : un backbeat rapide, des guitares empil\u00e9es sans longue histoire, Liam pouss\u00e9 devant, un refrain qui arrive et ne s’\u00e9loigne pas. La version album dure environ cinq minutes. L’edit radio fait 4:13.<\/p>\n

La radio l’entend avant les bacs. L’embargo est le 15 ao\u00fbt 2008. Chris Moyles la passe sur BBC Radio 1 ce matin-l\u00e0, Noel dans le studio, une minute avant l’heure officielle. Le clip, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Julian House et Julian Gibbs, est mis sur le site du groupe le 25 ao\u00fbt et passe sur Channel 4 le soir m\u00eame. House et Gibbs le construisent en collage : Liam qui chante, les autres en \u00e9clats, des images d’archive li\u00e9es \u00e0 la pochette, un rendu solaris\u00e9 sur les plans du groupe. Les silhouettes du d\u00e9but renvoient \u00e0 la pochette de Hot Rocks<\/em> des Rolling Stones. Ce n’est pas un film de concert. Un format porte en face B un remix des Chemical Brothers de Falling Down<\/em>. La face A est toujours la d\u00e9mo que Noel a refus\u00e9 de remplacer.<\/p>\n

Elle culmine \u00e0 la 3e place au Royaume-Uni. Le premier single fait ce qu’un premier single de cette formation devait faire : prouver que le groupe avait encore une chanson rapide, pas une autre ballade. Sur l’album elle est apr\u00e8s Waiting for the Rapture<\/em> et avant I’m Outta Time<\/em>, la chanson de Liam. Le contraste est le sens de l’ordre. Un morceau est la d\u00e9mo que Noel a refus\u00e9 de polir en quelque chose de plus lisse. Le suivant est plus lent, et il est de son fr\u00e8re. Sardy a mix\u00e9 la rapide \u00e0 Los Angeles sans, selon Noel, raboter l’\u00e9nergie de la premi\u00e8re prise. La batterie reste occup\u00e9e. Les guitares ne s’arr\u00eatent pas pour laisser la place \u00e0 un pont.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 la mi-octobre 2008, le groupe du single, Gem, Noel, Liam et Andy, Starkey \u00e0 la batterie, est \u00e0 Wembley pour le photocall qui annonce les stades de l’\u00e9t\u00e9 suivant. La chanson qu’ils promeuvent est encore la rapide d’Abbey Road. Noel avait demand\u00e9 des grooves \u00e0 la place de l’ancienne forme de chanson. C’est celle qu’il a laiss\u00e9e tranquille, et celle que Big Brother a sortie en premier. La d\u00e9mo a fait le travail d’un single. C’\u00e9tait l’affirmation, et le classement a suivi jusqu’\u00e0 la 3e place.<\/p>\n
