Anita, June, and Ruth Pointer wrote it with saxophonist and arranger Trevor Lawrence; Richard Perry produced. The track appeared on the album <em>So Excited!<\/em>. The first US chart run peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. The sisters were already veterans: Oakland roots, early jazz-and-R&amp;B experiments, then a sharper pop-and-dance focus under Perry at Planet \/ RCA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What you hear is built for the floor: a firm dance pulse, stacked sister vocals, and a chorus that states its case without mystery. Perry&rsquo;s production keeps the arrangement bright and clear. The 1982 single also reached the US Dance and R&amp;B charts, but its bigger life came later. In July 1984 a remixed version was reissued and added to a revised edition of the album <em>Break Out<\/em>. That campaign took the song to No. 9 on the Hot 100, No. 11 in the UK, and strong marks across Europe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The official video, all sequins and stage energy, locked the song into mid-80s MTV rotation. Billboard later ranked it among the great girl-group tracks.
