La section rythmique s\u2019\u00e9crase, lourde et monotone, entra\u00eenant l\u2019auditeur dans une d\u00e9marche au ralenti. Iggy Pop balance ses lignes comme si elles avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 m\u00e2ch\u00e9es puis recrach\u00e9es avec un sourire en coin, tandis que la guitare de Ron Asheton s\u2019ancre dans une boucle hypnotique. Rien n\u2019est poli, rien n\u2019est pos\u00e9. Sans jamais se retourner, la prise respire, r\u00e2pe et penche vers l\u2019avant.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sous la direction de Don Gallucci, les sessions d\u2019enregistrement avaient pour but de capturer The Stooges tels qu\u2019ils sonnaient vraiment. Pas d\u2019artifices, pas d\u2019adoucissants. Juste une configuration qui laissait l\u2019air circuler autour des micros, cr\u00e9ant de la place pour le feedback. Le groupe a utilis\u00e9 tr\u00e8s peu de surimpressions, jouant dans la m\u00eame pi\u00e8ce. Le r\u00e9sultat est une musique enracin\u00e9e dans la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition et la pr\u00e9sence physique. Le mix est assez brut pour qu\u2019on sente la sueur derri\u00e8re chaque note.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les paroles d\u2019Iggy oscillent entre enchantement et constat. Le phras\u00e9 \u00e9pouse avec souplesse le tempo de la basse et de la batterie. Scott Asheton conduit son kit comme s\u2019il tra\u00eenait une cha\u00eene massive. La basse de Dave Alexander comble les vides sans jamais chercher \u00e0 briller. Le groupe ne cherche pas l\u2019escalade. Il s\u2019installe dans un tempo qui cultive la tension. La force et la friction donnent \u00e0 <em>Down on the Street<\/em> toute son efficacit\u00e9. Guid\u00e9 par l\u2019instinct et la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition, le morceau entier sonne comme une machine assembl\u00e9e dans un garage. Chaque \u00e9l\u00e9ment du mix conserve sa place propre. Ron Asheton s\u2019incline juste ce qu\u2019il faut pour maintenir la boucle en marche. Iggy parle autant qu\u2019il chante. La voix s\u2019ancre dans le rythme, sans jamais le dominer.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Plus de cinquante ans plus tard, la musique frappe encore avec la m\u00eame intensit\u00e9 brute. Construite sur la confiance et la pesanteur, son tempo avance comme une foul\u00e9e nocturne alourdie. Elle ne cherche pas \u00e0 s\u2019\u00e9lever. Elle reste au sol, coinc\u00e9e dans un groove qui r\u00e9sonne \u00e0 travers des d\u00e9cennies de post-punk et de garage abrasif. <em>Down on the Street<\/em> ne d\u00e9bat pas, n\u2019explique rien.
