Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Come On Outside

Oasis leftover, 2020: Blue Moon Rising EP finally opens the door

Noel Gallagher first wrote Come On Outside while Oasis worked on Dig Out Your Soul in 2008. The song stayed unfinished in public until 27 February 2020, when Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds issued it as a digital single. A week later, on 6 March 2020, it landed as track three on the Blue Moon Rising EP, the last of three short High Flying Birds EPs between 2019 and 2020. Credits list Gallagher as writer and producer, with Dave Sardy also on production and mix duties; parts of the EP period were engineered around Abbey Road’s Gatehouse studio with Paul Stacey and Emre Ramazanoglu.

The arrangement keeps Gallagher’s familiar tools: layered electric guitars, a solid drum pattern, and a vocal that sits forward without a guest feature. Harmonies stack on the chorus. The lyric reads as a push out of the house and into motion, closer to a pep talk than to a breakup ballad. Compared with the heavier psychedelic turns of late Oasis, this cut is cleaner and more open, in line with the dance-leaning singles that surrounded the EP (Black Star Dancing, Wandering Star, Blue Moon Rising).

There was no full narrative video; the official channel posted a lyric video. Fans who had tracked Oasis session leaks already knew the title. For everyone else, 2020 was the first clean studio version: Sour Mash / High Flying Birds branding, not an Oasis B-side vault dump. Live dates announced around the EP (Manchester Apollo, Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust) put the new songs into the set before the pandemic shut tours down.

How it manages to combine the influences of Metallica, the Jesters Of Malice, Mantovani, Robinson Crusoe as well as Bob Marley and The Wailers is literally beyond me.

Come On Outside does not rewrite Gallagher’s catalog. It finishes a 2008 idea with 2020 High Flying Birds production and parks it inside a five-track EP rather than a full album campaign. That is enough: an Oasis-era sketch, completed, and filed under the solo band name.

Twelve years between the notebook and the release date. The door opens late, but it opens.
