The first MTV sit-down, voice kept low
Prince’s first televised MTV interview, in 1985, arrives in the long shadow of Purple Rain and the deliberate quiet around Around the World in a Day. He is guarded, sharp, and still oddly intimate, controlling the room without raising his voice. The questions lean toward myth, race, and control. He leans toward craft, originality, and the right to remain unfinished in public. Nothing is given away for free. What you get is the posture itself: a star who has already decided that explanation is a kind of theft.
